In another twist to the saga that the Umpire Decision Review System, the UDRS will not after all be in use for the India England ODI series after Hot Spot reacted to the BCCI’s opposition.

It is not hidden matter that there is no love lost between the BCCI aka Indian cricket and the Umpire Decision Review System. Although the ICC thought they have partially resolved the issue at the annual ICC conference three months back, the agenda is back on the table with blows being traded once more.
The ICC has been looking for ways to make the use of the UDRS more universal and it would have thought it achieved that with the UDRS being given the go ahead without the ball tracking Hawk Eye technology which was the bone of contention with the BCCI and the Indian cricketers. However, the ICC’s attempts to further make UDRS integral to cricket suffered a jolt in England with the Hot Spot coming under the scanner on more than one occasion, particularly with Indian cricketers at the receiving end on India’s tour of England.
The UDRS has virtually faced single handed opposition from the Indian team while other teams have been more amenable to trialling the system with the aim of making it foolproof.
The dour end to the tour saw the BCCI conclude at its Annual General Meeting that the UDRS was still not for Indian cricket and that they would oppose it in future cricket encounters as well. As it turns out, the BCCI’s open opposition to the UDRS and now to Hot Spot has forced the owners of Hot Spot to take a step back and decide not to bring the technology to India altogether for the India England ODI series.
Without the Hot Spot, the UDRS is further rendered as a mere lip service which has meant that even the ICC has had to accede to the series going ahead without the UDRS, which would please India but perhaps would have a few former and present England cricketers having a thing or two to say about it. The matter however, stands far from resolved and perhaps has run into fairly rough weather once more.
