UDRS Preparations for World Cup on as England Australia ODI Series will Feature Technology

In a first of its kind, the England Australia ODI series will witness the Umpire Decision Review System in use in one day internationals in the run up to the World Cup. It is a far cry from the BCCI and Indian cricket which has been opposed to the system and vehemently at that.

By now, the BCCI and Indian cricketers have become infamous for staunchly opposing the use of technology in sport, getting on the nerves of opposition captains as the Sri Lankan captain, Kumar Sangakkara, Australian captain, Ricky Ponting, and South African captain, Graeme Smith, who are of the opinion that nothing can be improved upon unless it is changed.

However, while the BCCI remains opposed to the use of the UDRS, even to the point of deciding not to tour down under for the Ashes where they were invited to witness the UDRS in progress, the ICC is going ahead with its attempt to introduce the UDRS directly into the business end of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

In keeping with the fact that the technology will be on trial during the World Cup, teams such as England and Australia have decided to get a feel for themselves on how they would adapt to the technology in the fifty overs game after using it in the Test format for the Ashes 2010.

The England Australia ODI series should make for some exciting matches with the UDRS in implementation and it has to be said that it a wise move to try it before the big stage rather than wait for it to be imposed upon them at a dangerous time in the World Cup. Are the BCCI and Indian cricket getting the point?
