Pakistan's fast bowler, Umar Gul, missed out playing in the Asia Cup 2010 due to a shoulder injury. But that he was still following the fortunes of teams was evident in his assessment of India's win in the Asia Cup final of 2010.

Gul stated that India's win did not surprise him because he knew the conditions suited India's pace bowling attack, "It didn't surprise me even though India lost the league match to Sri Lanka. But given the conditions in Dambulla and the fact that the ball does seam around under lights, India had the better and more experienced pace attack to cope with the pressure of a high profile final and their bowlers came good."
He also singled out Praveen Kumar and Ashish Nehra for their contributions, "I thought Praveen Kumar set the tone for the other Indian bowlers with his new ball spell while Ashish Nehra produced a magical spell."
