Stephen Boock, the former New Zealand cricketer, rates Daniel Vettori as the cleverest spinner around.

Boock was of the opinion that Vettori did not possess any airs nor did he have any secret weapons stacked up. Instead in his opinion, Vettori possessed one of the brightest minds in the cricket world and it has been his secret to success getting to 3000 runs and 300 Test wickets.
He stated Vettori's strengths lay in reading the pitch and understanding what he could do best to exploit it. He had no doubt that Vettori would eventually break Richard Hadlee's record and move closer to Kapil Dev if he played on into the next decade.
