Perhaps the similarity in the manner both the players play has something to do with admiration that Virender Sehwag has for Mathew Hayden. The Daredevil attitude of the two, playing each stroke in fearless abandon, taking each challenge head on has certain similarities.

Sehwag was all praises for the Australian opener. He was going to miss playing with a legend. As per him Mathew's retirement was a loss not only to the Australian team but also, to the whole cricket world. Australia has lost Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath before. As both these great players have also retired the impact can be seen in the performance of the Australian team.
Sehwag was also impressed by the consistency of Hayden's performances. He managed to score 20 centuries in eight years while Sehwag could manage only 15. It was because Hayden's start, his scoring of runs that gave team Australia chances to win so many matches. It was only because of Hayden's support that Australians managed to score up to 500 runs.
Sehwag also recalled the way the heavily built batsman would try to intimidate the opposite team especially the bowler. He was a master sledger, sledging not only the bowler but also the fielders. Bowlers would surely be relieved to see back of Hayden.
Sehwag as an opener had good working relation with Matthew Hayden, in fact Sehwag wishes to play with Hayden on the opposite end.
Matthew will be playing for The Chennai Super Kings in April in the next season of Indian Premier League.
