Former West Indies cricketer, Sir Viv Richards, wants cricket to become a part of the Commonwealth Games as well as the Olympics. In his opinion, the Games are the perfect opportunity for cricket to promote itself.

Richards also felt that cricket had the perfect “saleman” through Twenty20 which would be a compact version that could fit into the context of the Games. He referred to rugby which has been reduced to seven a side to be accommodated for the games.

Richards is here in India as the brand ambassador for the Antigua and Barbados contingent.

Being a former cricketer himself, he could not help but touch upon the first Test of the India Australia series that India won in thrilling fashion in Mohali. Richards felt more such Tests were needed to keep the attraction going while stating that Test cricket still held plenty of relevance in the modern game.

He also spoke about the growing chasm between former West Indies cricketers and the running of the West Indies cricket, stating that the former were being sidelined from taking an active role in the development of the sport in the region going through a crisis of sorts.
