VVS Laxman Gets his Wish - the Padma Shri Award to Join an Elite Club of Cricketers

For some time now, V.V.S. Laxman has often complained about how he has not got his due, whether it was on the cricket field or in terms of awards. Now it appears at least one of those would be settled as V.V.S. Laxman is being awarded with the Padma Shri.

V.V.S. Laxman has lamented in the past that there was no enough faith on the part of the selectors to persist with him in the shorter formats of the game. The snub from the ODI team is something that is obviously a touchy subject that sometimes comes across when he talks cricket.

But V.V.S. Laxman will now the ranks of some of the illustrious Indian cricketers to have the rare and prestigious honour of having received the Padma Shri. If anything, it will be a coming true of wishes for Laxman who had also touched upon the fact not so long ago in the past that he felt he was deserving of the award himself.

Although Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid have all received the fourth highest civilian award before him, Laxman will feel at least someone has heard of this one wish and granted it to him.

Laxman has been playing Test cricket for India for the past fifteen years and has sixteen centuries to his name. Considered indispensable in the middle order, Laxman can be a stylish batsman when in full flow. But his most memorable innings will continue to remain the one he played at the Eden Gardens in an astounding partnership with Rahul Dravid as India rallied from deficit against Australia to win the match in tremendous fashion more than decade ago.
