The furore was expected. After all, scathing criticism either incites people to join in the fight or react in just the opposite way to it. Sunil Gavaskar's comments on John Buchanan did the latter.

Gavaskar became one of the most notable cricket voices in India after Dilip Vengsarkar expressed his views of what he thought of John Buchanan's idea of having multiple captains in the Kolkata Knight Riders team in the forthcoming IPL in South Africa.
While Vengarkar called it a "mockery" of the game, Gavaskar launched a tirade against Buchanan with statements such as: (here are the excerpts from his column):
John Buchanan is "a failed first-class cricketer making a living telling international players to do what he couldn't do." He also added that the Indian media was giving him too much importance when his theory did not deserve merit. "To comment on his multiple skipper theory is to give it the importance it doesn't deserve."
Gavaskar also pointed out to the KKR support staff and accused Buchanan of showing favoritism and deceiving the KKR franchisee owners, "he has got his Queensland pals lucrative jobs with KKR...They have a very big support staff which includes his son and most of them are from Queensland. The owners - poor souls - have little idea that they are being milked."
It appears the most stinging criticism has not come from Sourav Ganguly fans in Kolkata from a well known cricket personality not known to mince his words.
