Wi Cricket Saga: Gayle Named Captain as WICB Name Full Strength Squad Against Australia

--> -->

Ending much speculation and bitter controversies, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) announced the squad for West Indies' tour to Australia for three Tests, giving Chris Gayle once again the reins of captaincy.

Gayle's remarks caused quit a stir with many in the top positions thinking perhaps Gayle was not really interesting in the Test side of cricket and happy to oblige his IPL employers. But the board is stated to have homed in on home after giving several players, including former captain, Ramnaresh Sarwan, and Dwayne Bravo due consideration.

Gayle's return also marks the end of the bitter battle between the WICB and the WIPA (West Indies Players Association) which means that Cricket Australia need not have worked up an excuse for the Australian team not feeling enthusiastic about facing a depleted West Indies side.

Gayle's reappointment ends Floyd Reifer's brief thunder. But players like Kemar Roach, Gavin Tonge, and Adrian Barath have used the opportunities to now have the opportunity to rub shoulders with their more renowned peers at the international stage.

Darren Ganga's impressive streak as captain of the Trinidad and Tobago team, that reached the Champions League Twenty20 in India, failed to erase his past Test history. But Bravo will be ecstatic to return given that he was thinking on the likes of turning into a freelance cricketer should the imbruglio not have ended.

Notably West Indies will miss Fidel Edwards who has been ruled out with a knee problem.

West Indies team for the tour to Australia:

Chris Gayle (captain), Adrian Barath, Sulieman Benn, Dwayne Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine, Travis Dowlin, Brendan Nash, Denesh Ramdin, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Darren Sammy, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Jerome Taylor, Gavin Tonge
