WI Crisis: Strike Over, Players Still Out

The strike by the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) has been officially called off. However, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) are continuing to stick with Floyd Reifer and his men.

The WIPA that includes Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul amongst others has agreed to a mediation initiated by Guyana President, Bharat Jagdeo who is also the head of CARICOM (Caribbean Community and Commercial Market). The news comes in the wake of reports that Trinidad and Tobago were willing to break away from the West Indies board over abnormalities and form their own team.

The strike call off means that the cricketers are now available for selection but the WICB has decided to continue with the combination of Floyd Reifer and Darren Sammy in charge of the West Indies team for the ODI series against Bangladesh, a move Gayle has dubbed the WICB as “boss playing hard ball”.

West Indies lost recently to Bangladesh by a 2-0 margin in the Test series, that proved historic for Bangladesh but ignominy for the West Indies. Pics below:
