india women cricket players

Women cricket in India has always lagged behind, not because there are no outstanding performers, but for lack of funding. This year there is some light for women cricket through sumptuous amount sanctioned by the BCCI.

Women cricket in India has for long been suffering for lack of funds that neither came through sponsorship nor through the cricket board. Comparatively, men cricket has always been the forerunner, be it in funding or in sponsorships. Because of such an indifferential treatment, women cricket has always lagged behind, with no proper grounds to play, no infrastructure and no prize money to boost the women cricketers. Moreover, for the lack of funding, there used to be a less number of tournaments to play.

However, time seems to be changing for better for domestic women cricket in the country, especially because of a lavish funding this year, almost double the amount allotted previous year. More so, the teams will not only play ODIs, but also two day matches from now on. It is also expected that prize money will also get a financial boost. With it, it is hoped that sponsors will also come forward and women domestic cricket will have improved infrastructure facilities, better grounds to play in and superior training facilities will be given by hiring experienced coaches.

The lengthy gap between men cricket and women cricket needs to be bridged. Only then, we can see women cricket in India flourish.
