Impressed by John Wright's successful stint with the Indian cricket team, Australia is all set to rope in the former New Zealand captain for the head coach's job at the Centre of Excellence in Brisbane.

When he joins the job, Wright would succeed Tim Nielsen, who has taken over as Australia's new national coach after John Buchanan quit the job following the side's third World Cup triumph in the row.

Incidentally, Wright was nowhere in the original list and Cricket Australia (CA) was considering Trevor Bayliss and Tim Coyle for the job.

Bayliss subsequently withdrew from the race to stay with the Blues, while Coyle was ignored by CA.

Wright had a successful stint with the Indian cricket team lasting near five years during which the side reached World Cup finals and won series in Pakistan. Previously, Wright also coached Kent and his impressive track record saw him much in demand this year.

Even the Pakistan Cricket Board was interested in Wright following the death of Bob Woolmer, while Bangladesh also sounded out the Kiwi.
