Former New Zealand batsman and former India coach, John Wright, has warned New Zealand against preparing pitches that not only suit their team but also, end up favouring the visitors more.

Wright, who coached India before Greg Chappell took over, worked successfully with Sourav Ganguly in staging one of India’s greatest revivals. He now feels India can put behind them the debacle that was their last tour to New Zealand ahead of the 2003 World Cup because they have the team to do it.
Wright stated, “The advantage India have this time is that, whatever conditions are rolled out by the hosts, they have the attack to make the most of them. They have a lot of firepower to call on…” Wright was touching upon the fact that India now has a lethal team of fast bowlers to add to their traditional power of spinners.
The former coach also singled out Ishant Sharma for praise and potential, stating he could prove a handful on helpful pitches such as those in England and in New Zealand, which why he has suggested that New Zealand should not simply rely on India’s capitulation like in the previous series on artificially laid pitches.
He believed India has the potential to become a force to reckon with given their change from a team with tremendous batting prowess to one with a more well rounded game. He states, “That's probably the biggest difference between the India side of today, and the combinations of previous years: the bowling. It now has everything pace, swing, left-arm variation, wrist-spin and finger-spin. When I was there things were just starting to turn but now you really see the difference.” He goes on to even exclaim, “They've probably got the best attack in world cricket at the moment, when you think about it.”
What better praise than from a former coach, right? Greg Chappell, are you listening?
