This has to be, by far, the drabbest opening ceremony in the history of opening ceremonies of major cricket tournaments, despite the presence of the South African president and a South American pop star.

The Wanderers, Johannesburg, saw sparse crowd as Enrique Iglesias played out to a drab audience. The lyrics of his song seemed to ring true as he kept belting "Be with you", almost as if beckoning the crowds to the stadium. "I Like It" was sung pretty much with his back to the audience almost as if looking to his own band for some support.
Before him, Locnville, as the band is named by the two cape Town based twin brothers, Andrew and Brian Chaplin, fared even worse as few in the audience seem to even care that there was an opening ceremony on show, a far cry from the response that the brothers have received outside of the bull ring.
Even South African President, Jacob Zuma, seemed befuddled for words when asked to say a few words ahead of the coin toss for the match between the Highveld Lions and the Mumbai Indians.
Has the FIFA World Cup 2010 drained the enthusiasm or has the match fixing scandal in England fizzled the contest or is the CL T20 merely finding its feet in a foreign territory other than cricket crazy India?
