Strong reactions are emerging from across the board for what Pakistan perceive to be India’s way of bringing Pakistan to its knees. Once again raking up the conspiracy theory of India being behind the Lahore attack on the Sri Lankan cricketers to Afridi being used as poster boy for the IPL, no stone is being spared, not against Modi, India or the BCCI.
Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani, the Sports Minister of Pakistan, was on par with the Pakistan Cricket Board chief (PCB chairman), Ejaz Butt, is registering the anguish that side of the border over the Pakistan cricketers not being picked in the IPL 3 auctions held in Mumbai yesterday to the Sports Ministry of India.
Lalit Modi, the IPL Commissioner, has also come under fire, with the Pakistan officials stating that Modi was refusing to respond to their queries and it was at the persistence of the IPL that Pakistan even acted to clear the Pakistan cricketers for the IPL 3 season.
The Jamaat-e-Islami, the Islamist political party, had their chief crying hoarse over what transpired at the IPL 3 auctions. The JI chief stated that it showed the shallowness of India’s initiatives to broker peace with Pakistan. Instigating past conspiracy theory, he alleged that India also tried to disrupt Sri Lanka’s tour of Pakistan with the terror attack on the cricketers’ bus in Lahore.
In his own words, “slap on the face of those striving for confidence building between the two countries through artificial means. This has proved that India can never be sincere towards Pakistan.”
He strongly stated that this was only one of the many atrocities committed upon the Pakistan people, “India is continuing brutalities in Kashmir and it is also denying this country its share in rivers’ water to convert this country into a desert. India’s aggressive activities are continuing on the Line of Control (LoC) while the Indian army chief is threatening of using nuclear bomb against Pakistan thus wiping it out within minutes.”
In a seemingly less sinister allegation, Shahid Afridi’s manager has alleged that the IPL has used Afridi’s name to propagate the IPL but handed him a right royal slap on his face when it came to putting matters on paper.
This will not go down easy.
