The ICC has been shifting weight from one foot to another. And yet again, they have attempted to right a wrong, but not all are viewing it that way.
Umpire Darrell Hair was in the thick of things when England were handed over the Test match at the Oval, deeming Pakistan to have forfeited after failing to take the field. After a prolonged drama that saw Pakistan confined to the dressing room after being accused of ball tampering, Inzamam Ul Haq led his team onto the field only to see that the umpires had handed over the game, allowing the hosts to win the series 3-0.
However, Pakistan took matters higher up and the ICC intervened and declared the match a draw to calm tensions. Meanwhile Hair was also making the ICC pull their hair out, demanding a fee for staying away from the game.
Now after the 2006 episode, the ICC has ventured to attempt to correct its original mistake of intervening where it had no business to. The ICC technically has no right to change the result of a match, and hence, after their meetings, have decided to revert to the original decision that the umpires made awarding the match to England.
However, Pakistan is collectively annoyed over the decision after the Champions trophy was also moved out while Darell Hair himself is blaming the ICC for having ruined his career, in his own words!
