ICC to allow players to appeal third umpire

Finally, the International Cricket Council ICC has decided to resolve the much-debated issue of players appeal to the third umpire and the use of technology in decision-making. It is very likely that the players will be empowered to make appeals to the third umpire if they feel field umpires’ decision is wrong.

The Lara-Dhoni confrontation is still in fresh memory. Dhoni was the victim of technical problem. Many such incidents have been in witnessed in the past. It seems such types of controversies have awakened the ICC to act on it.

Now, the issue dominated the main agenda of the forthcoming ICC Chief Executives’ Committee meeting at Lord’s Cricket Ground on July 2.

The ICC Cricket Committee had suggested that players should be permitted to make three appeals per innings to the third umpire, if they consider a decision made by the on-filed umpire is incorrect.

ICC has prepared to introduce the rule in trial basis in the ICC champions trophy. Then it will make review on it.
