India needed to do two things to win the second Test of the India Australia series – quickly take the final three Australian wickets and then, chase down the 200 plus target. The world’s no.1 Test team did both which is why they won the Border Gavaskar Trophy by a 2-0 margin.
Autralia were leading by 191 runs overnight with just three wickets remaining. India pulled off the needful in that they did not allow the Australian tail to wag, snapping up the final three for Australia to fold on 223, with a lead of only 206.
India’s chase on the final day was fashioned first through Murali Vijay’s thirty-seven despite losing Virender Sehwag early. Thereafter came the important partnership between debutant, Chesteshwar Pujara, batting at one down, with Sachin Tendulkar as the duo brought India to within touching distance of victory.
Pujara scored an impressive seventy-two while Sachin Tendulkar added another half century to his double century in the match as India romped home in style by seven wickets.
