Another flat day but nevertheless, the Indian fightback. That was the story of the third day’s play at the SCC in Colombo in the second Test of India’s tour of Sri Lanka.
Some would say that perhaps Virender Sehwag fell for a trick he played far too many times. Even yesterday it was stated that Sehwag was living life on the edge. Undeterred by the criticism in the first Test despite scoring a century, Sehwag vowed not to change his ways. He cost him dearly today because it was the same moment of impetuosity that denied him a Test century, as he stepped out in a rush of blood and got himself stumped for ninety-nine!

Had the day got visibly worse for India, Sehwag would have been back in the cynosure as India lost two quick wickets in a domino like effect, Murali Vijay and Rahul Dravid adding to Ajantha Mendis and Suraj Randiv’s wickets tally.
However, Sachin Tendulkar was it again and this time he was determined not to be denied a Test century, his forty-eighth Test century to be more precise. It took a day’s toil with the prime objective being to reduce the Sri Lanka’s first innings’ imposition.
Supporting him at the other end, with V.V.S. Laxman having departed, was debutant Suresh Raina, batting stress free on sixty-six as Tendulkar looked good for more as India finished the day on 382 for four, still adrift but propositioning a draw at the end of the third day’s play.
