Naman Ojha made sixty-eight from fifty-one balls but it was the South African captain Graeme Smith who raced to a forty-four ball seventy-seven. The dynamic duo’s 135 run opening stand put paid to the Kings XI Punjab’s attempts to surprise the Rajasthan Royals team with spin at Kingsmead, Durban.
Too much damage was inflicted at the top of the order for Yuvraj Singh to stem the rot as the Royals went on to post the highest total of the IPL 2 season in South Africa, 211. The majestic Smith finally came to the party after playing a rather sedate role so far in the second edition of the IPL. Ravindra Jadeja then made the final incision with a twelve ball thirty-three.
The Mohali team were jolted further as Amit Singh picked up the wickets of Sohal and Karan Goel with the score 2/2. Four for twenty-nine became five for thirty-nine when Kumar Sangakkara was followed by Mahela Jayawardene in quick succession. The only person who looked in touch enough to keep the game alive was Yuvraj Singh. The skipper’s forty-eight included three sixes and while the runs kept coming, the game had slipped away from the Kings XI Punjab as they lost by a whopping margin of seventy-eight runs.
