The Delhi Daredevils achieved their win over the Chennai Super Kings. It was a combination of both, brilliant batting by AB “Daredevil” De Villiers and also, some poor batting strategy by the Super Kings at Kingsmead, Durban.
AB de Villiers scored the first century of IPL 2 and in the process, ensured that the target for the Chennai Super Kings would go just that much further.
Chennai would feel that despite chasing 190, they could have achieved it with a bit more sensible batting. After all Matthew Hayden gave them the best possible start and his fifty-seven off twenty-seven balls and his crucial partnership with Suresh Raina gave Chennai a realistic chance only to lose by ten runs in the day.
Chennai did get the crucial breakthroughs, dismissing both Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir early. But the Daredevils built their strong innings total on AB’s century and his partnership with Sri Lanka’s Tillekeratne Dilshan.
Chennai’s chase fizzled after the fall of Matthew Hayden’s wicket and once Pradeep Sangwan got into the act to pick up three wickets and while Chennai kept themselves in the reckoning, it was the one innings of acceleration that never came.
