IPL 3 Match 55: Deccan Chargers Push Aside Daredevils

Andrew Symonds’ innings, in hindsight, was valuable for the Deccan Chargers who nudged the Delhi Daredevils not only out of the contest at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium in New Delhi but also, out of the reckoning for the IPL 3 semi finals.
In a deciding encounter, the Chargers appeared to have hiccuped after Adam Gilchrist won the toss and decided to bat first. Ashish Nehra sent back Gilchrist early and the only real rescue act came from Andrew Symonds’ whose fifty-four run innings off just thirty balls became worth their weight in gold.
But Symonds’ departure at five down for 116 in the fourteenth over meant that the visitors stuttered in the challenge once more, posting 145 on board.
The Delhi Daredevils captain, Gautam Gambhir, did not want to play in Delhi over pitch concerns and he will continue to hold that grouse as the Daredevils made the task harder for themselves as the pitch assisted the spin of Harmeet Singh and Pragyan Ojha.
Mitchell Marsh got rid of David Warner while Virender Sehwag was accounted for by Chaminda Vaas and with the gate left open, more followed back to the pavilion including Tillekeratne Dilshan and the captain himself.
Paul Collingwood kept the hosts interested with a half century as Mithun Manhas partnered him in the difficult ordeal to resurrect Delhi’s campaign, Ashish Nehra standing on his own turf with twenty-two runs. But needing twenty-seven runs from twelve balls, the pitch was not going to favour shot making and the Chargers’ death bowlers ensured this was one situation that the Daredevils would have no respond to.
