The spat between Shashi Taroor, Minister of State of External Affairs, and Lalit Modi brought out the best and the worst of allegations as well as comments.
Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi was stated to have made comments to the effect, “IPL is glorified gambling and I do not like it. I don’t consider it to be a sport. It is not One Day International (ODI) or test cricket. This is for the elite group who cry when the fuel prices go up but spend lavishly on IPL.”
Amit Shah, Minister of State for Home in Gujarat who also happens to be the vice president of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), meanwhile came out in defense of the Gujarat Chief Minister over accusations that he, along with Lalit Modi, the IPL Chairman and Commissioner, tried to persuade and push the Kochi franchisees to give up, “GCA or its president (Modi) has nothing to do with the entire controversy. Allegations levelled against us are baseless.”
