Much has been said about Brett Lee’s divorce, his lack of form and his injury woes. Many have already ruled out his chances on the current England tour and Ashes. However, Brett Lee responded as only a champion bowler could have in the warm up match against the England Lions.
Brett Lee vindicated the Australian captain Ricky Ponting’s faith in him and practically sealed a spot ahead of the first Ashes Test in Cardiff on the 8th of July with a six wicket burst that failed to derail the England Lions eventually but certainly forced them to dig deep. Lee’s burst of six wickets included the top five batsmen in an England team led by Ian Bell and it emphasized that even former players such as Jason Gillespie were wrong in believing that Lee had not comprehensively learnt to bowl in English wickets.
It still remains to be seen how Lee will perform in the match when the Test begins. But for now, he has passed the preliminaries with flying colours, almost certainly stealing the spearhead role back from Mitchell Johnson.
