From cricketer to selector to coach, Mark Greatbatch is certainly on a role as he assumes position of New Zealand’s coach.
The former opener will now help New Zealand captain, Daniel Vettori, in the decision making business through his role as a coach.
While many names were amongst those short listed, even as names of former England coach, Duncan Fletcher, and former Australian captain and Hyderabad Deccan Chargers coach in the IPL, Darren Lehmann, were floating around, there was a deliberate attempt to fill the spot left vacant by the resignation of Andy Moles without necessarily disrupting the existing set up of New Zealand cricket.
With Greatbatch already serving as a selector, there was a feeling that the transition would be essentially smooth. Besides, there is the obvious emphasis on batting which is where he will be expected to lend his expertise.
