Glenn McGrath is among those cricket players who have made a name for himself through sheer dint of hard work and perseverance. He is among the very best in the history of the game. And after having almost assured his team’s place in the semi finals of the World Cup, he will hang his boots at the end of the tournament. Now what he is eagerly waiting for is the next game to be played against England.
Glenn McGrath anticipates Australia’s victory over England when the two sides meet on Sunday. The game is most likely to be his final encounter between the two sides. McGrath has always cherished playing against England. And most of the times, it is due to his fearsome bowling that won Australia many of the games against England, be it at home or away. And he very much hopes to do the same on Sunday. Though, earlier this year in the CB Series England beat Australia three times in a row, yet McGrath does not expect a repeat. He very dearly wants to win his last game against the English team. This is also because of the poor show by the English team of late in the world cup.
McGrath doesn’t hesitate saying,
I always enjoy playing England – I prefer to beat them obviously. With the way England have been playing and the way we’ve been playing, we should win pretty well. I think we’ve played some awesome cricket – and to be honest, no team has really got close to us. It’s hard to say this will be the toughest match so far – the South Africa match was always going to be a tough one.
The Australian seam bowler is the highest wicket taker in world cup history with 57 scalps in his bag. He very much hopes to run through the English line- up once again in his last encounter against them.
McGrath is quite clearly among the best fast bowlers of the world, past and present. And he deserves to end on a good note.
