Mumbai ODI Without Zing as Selectors Pick Test Squad

india takes a break

The Mumbai of the India Australia ODI series will not play any role in the fate of the series and will not, for all practical purposes, have a bearing on the team that the selectors will pick for the Test matches against Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan tour to India begins with three Tests and the fact that the ODIs are still some way off, the Indian cricketers will essentially play for pride in the final one day match against Australia.
This selection headed by Krishnamachari Srikkanth will pick the team for the Tests and while one is likely to see the return of Zaheer Khan, perhaps Ashish Nehra’s performance and comeback will not give the Test berth, not with Ishant Sharma being considered a horse for the long run. But wonders never cease. The rest of the pick of bowlers will likely be a case of musical chairs.
The batting should see the older, familiar faces of V.V.S. Laxman and Rahul Dravid and perhaps that will be viewed with some relief given that the younger men have been more a case of heartbreak for the fans of Indian cricket in recent months with failures in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20, the ICC Champions Trophy 2009 and now in the series against Australia.
But what couple of surprises the selectors may be tempted to pull off will be of interest in tomorrow’s match played in the boardroom.
