Faced with the prospect of a deciding contest, South Africa brought out the aces with the bat and won the battle as Pakistan went down under pressure at the Dubai international cricket stadium.
South Africa batted Pakistan out of the match quite literally. And the chief protagonists in the deed included Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers and JP Duminy along with the consistent hand, Hashim Amla.
Kallis played the role of the all rounder to perfection, notching up eighty-three runs in the critical fifth and final ODI in the Pakistan South Africa series and then, went onto work his magic with the ball by picking up three wickets. another man who stood out for South Africa on the night was Robin Petersen, drafted in for Colin Miller, with the need for a second spinner.
Pakistan were left with a daunting target of 318 after Kallis formed a partnership with de Villiers who scored a half century while Hashim Amla and JP Duminy tucked in valuable cameos even as the latter shared an unbeaten eighty-nine partnership with Johan Botha towards the end.
Pakistan’s only innings of substance came from Umar Akmal who made sixty-one runs in vain as Pakistan went down by fifty-seven runs to give South Africa a series win by 3-2 margin.
