Backdoor drama may well be at play to ensure that the England Pakistan ODI series go ahead. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board is in no mood to hump the gun.
While the ICC President, Sharad Pawar, stated that the idea was for the ODI series to go ahead, what he did not touch upon what the fact that the ICC and the England and Wales Cricket Board ( ECB ) are trying to broker a deal with the England cricketers and cricket fans by demanding that the Pakistan Cricket Board ( PCB ) suspend the four players in question – Salman Butt, the Pakistan Test captain, Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Aamer and Kamran Akmal – over immediate accusations of spot fixing.
However, the PCB is reluctant to act on the players until the SCotland Yard has completed its probe. But with such public outcry over whether there is merit in continuing with the England Pakistan ODI series with the cloud of suspicion hanging thick in the air.
