The Australian captain does not care if Australia are not considered favourites to win the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. And he does give weightage to consider who is.
Australia missed beating India at their own game in the warm up. But prior to the match, Ricky Ponting thought little of the fact that not many are rating Australia as the top notch team to beat despite being the three time defending champions in a row.
Australia have not had a great season by any stretch of the imagination. However, they managed to negate the disappointment of the Ashes 2010 with the success in beating England comprehensively in the England Australia ODI series. And Australia are looking to carry on the momentum and the confidence into the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
Ponting is not worried that Australia are not being talked in the same breath as India and he feels that it will have no impact on how Australia approach the ICC Cricket World Cup. Instead Ponting acknowledges that India and South Africa are two teams that are rightly being billed amongst the favourites. However, he does not think that will impact Australia’s pursuit either.
Ponting believes he has the team to do it for a fourth time in a row and he believes performances, not the favourites tag, that will ultimately decide the game. The Australian captain should know as he faces his stiffest and in all possibility, his final test as the Australian captain. And he would certainly would want to finish on a high.
