To add insult to injury, team India not only lost the match to the West Indies but also, Rohit Sharma ended up with a fine for showing dissent to the umpire.
Rohit Sharma was fined 15 per cent of his applicable match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during India’s 14-run defeat against the West Indies in the ICC World Twenty20 2010 at Kensington Oval, Barbados. The charge was brought by on-field umpires Billy Bowden and Simon Taufel as well as third umpire Steve Davis and fourth official Billy Doctrove.
Sharma was charged with a Level 1 offence under article 2.1.3 of the code which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”. Rohit Sharma did not deny. After all, he was seen gesticulating, referring to the ball having his arm.
