The Shiv Sena certainly wasted no time this time once again smearing their hands with what they thought about the cricket tournament.
Shiv Sena supremo, Bal Thackeray, issued a statement, taking potshots at the IPL, “The ongoing controversy involving IPL commissioner Lalit Modi and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor has maligned the image of the ‘gentleman’s game. Ban the IPL to save the game of cricket.”
He did not spare the IPL Chairman and Commissioner and he also did not spare the cricketers, “What is this (Lalit) Modi, Modi going on? The entire controversy revolves around money so probe all the cricketers involved in IPL-3.”
He even alluded to possible match fixing by referring to the match between the Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders, the final league match that MI lost by nine wickets, How does Mumbai Indians, a team which won 8 to 10 matches, lose suddenly. How could its important players (referring to Sachin Tendulkar amongst others) remain absent from a match? Win and defeat are part of the game but there is doubt whether it happens on suggestions by bookies? It should be inquired from where industrialists, people like Shah Rukh Khan bring money to purchase teams.”
