Not all travel plans go as planned. Something similar is the case with the South African team that departed for the tour of India without the originally planned coach.
After the resignation of Mickey Arthur, the South African captain Graeme Smith expects his team will be professional enough to keep the emotional turmoil aside and turn to their professional attitude in the all important Test series against the current no.1 Test team.
Aiding him in his efforts is the caretaker coach, Corrie van Zyl, who hopes to ensure that the “culture of discipline” pervades through the team, and he believes the team will rise rather than fall from the chaos over the coaching position citing the case when the Hansie Cronje was involved with the match fixing scandal.
Smith also denied that there was a senior group within the team that proved too strong for the coach. Stating that every member had a role to play in his position of experience, Smith believes boundaries are not crossed when it comes to exercising authority.
It will undoubtedly test Smith’s patience because in his own words, touring India is not easy.
