Even as Shah Rukh Khan believes in Sourav Ganguly’s mystical luck for the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Bollywood actor and coowner of the KKR franchisee had better hold onto something else for lucky talisman because Sourav Ganguly will play in the IPL 4 after all, for the Pune Warriors.
Sourav Ganguly has maintained despite not being picked at the IPL 4 auctions that his heart and head told him he was not past his best by date. And he has remained astute in the hopes of a late IPL 4 stint and signing even though his former IPL franchisee have wanted him in a mentorship position, perhaps more like a brand ambassador, for his home state.
Now after much speculation over whether the former Indian captain will join the Kochi Tuskers Kerala as a replacement, it has been announced that Dada will move to the other new IPL team, the Pune Warriors.
Ganguly’s entry, so late into the IPL 4 season – more than halfway, comes on the heels of injury to Ashish Nehra which has ruled him out from the rest of the IPL 4 season. In a replacement that is keeping with the IPL rules, Ganguly was an easy switch to make for Pune.
Now Ganguly now only joins the squad, but also, he has been anointed as the Pune Warriors vice captain and will be part of the team leadership under the Pune Warriors captain, Yuvraj Singh. Ganguly though comes with a great burden of expectations – perhaps it is his bane in the IPL – with the Pune Warriors have sunk to the bottom for lack of wins and he will have to turn it on with the bat not only to get some respectability back for the new team but also, to ensure that this replacement assignment will count for something if he wants a chance to play for the next year, for Pune Warriors or any other team.
