While Yousuf Pathan slams the New Zealand A bowlers, his younger brother is doing another kind of twist and swirl. The new reality television show on television promises to take the cricket-entertainment alliance one step further, matching Indian cricketers with women from the television industry for a date with dance.
In a one of a kind scenario, cricketers are paired with female actors of the Indian television industry for a dance reality show on Colors, a new channel called Ek Khiladi, Ek Haseena. Hosted by Sandhya Mridul, the show will be judged by one of the most glamourous women of the Indian hindi cinema, Bollywood, Sushmita Sen who will be joined in the mark making by former Pakistan cricketer and now anchor and commentator, Wasim Akram.
While the cash prize of twenty-five lakh rupees must appear like peanuts for some of these cricketers, the USP of a show like this is to combine the fanatic popularity of cricket in India with one of the passions coming of out of the stables of the Ekta Kapoors of the television industry.
Seen below is Mark Ramprakash, who played for England, shaking a leg on a dance reality show back home.
In the present edition which is expected to air this Friday, the 26th of September, five cricketers will take part in the show that is expected to add a new dimension to the already invading number of dance reality shows. The only other sportsman to take part in one of these dance reality shows was former hockey player and coach, Mir Ranjan Negi. It has perhaps spawned the idea for including not only more sportspeople but also, involve the money spinner that is cricket. So, have other sports being marginalized again? No prizes for guessing but also, justified.
Already there is a buzz going round that people may see tainted former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin with his wife Sangeet Bijlani and Kapil Dev dance with his wife, though the latter apparently needs some convincing. Perhaps it would be interesting to have Mahesh Bhupathi, Leander Paes, Baichung Bhutia, and Narain Karthikeyan or Karun Chandok, join other contestants from the cricket world and then match skills on the dance floor. Perhaps that day is not too far.
For the moment, television addicts and cricket aficionados can watch these players shake their leg with some knock out damsels -S Sreesanth and Surveen Chawla, Harbhajan with Mona Singh, Irfan Pathan and Ashima Bhalla, Dinesh Kartik with Nigar Khan, Nikhil Chopra with Barkha Bisht, and Vinod Kambli and Shama Sikander. When you must go to the bank like one of India’s cricketers, why walk when you can dance your way to it?
Sample this: Sreesanth shows off his dancing skills to the world against South Africa to the fury of Andre Nel.
