The West Indies Cricket Board may have a narrow, apprehensive view of the top class West Indies cricketers. But they must pick the best players to represent the West Indies in the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa, so says the mediator.
Sridath Ramphal maintains that while the mediation between the WICB and WIPA (West Indies Players Association) at the behest of Bharat Jagdeo, the Guayana President who also heads the CARICOM ( Caribbean Community and Common Market), is still on, the WICB is still under obligation to ensure that the West Indies is still best represented by its top most players.
The WICB named a probables list of thirty that included players from the Bangladesh series and Fidel Edwards the only name amongst them. The board is apparently fed up of the players’ tantrums while the players state that the lack of organization is affecting their game.
